Severed To Saved

Severed To Saved

Trials are a part of life. We all face them. They can make us stronger or defeat us. It is all up to our own determination on what we do with what we were given. I want you to meet Sandra. She is our guest blogger for this week with an amazing  story.

I’m the mother of five children, grandmother of six. I live in Mesa, AZ with my husband, Jim. I love spending time with my family, hanging out on the beach, and taking trips to Disneyland. I counted once, and figured I’ve been to Disneyland over 150 times in my life. It might be considered an addiction, at this point.

Five years ago, I was in an ATV accident which nearly severed my right hand. Fortunately, my very talented surgeon decided I had nothing to lose (literally) and took a chance at saving my hand rather than amputating. It’s been a difficult journey, filled with 20 surgeries, 4 staph infections, three tissue expansions, hundreds of hours of physical therapy, and countless doctor visits, but today, I have a hand that works well enough for me to do just about anything I want to do.

The accident changed my life. Before that day in 2014, I was a bitter and angry woman. I’d been dealing with difficult circumstances since birth, including childhood sexual abuse, severe depression, a cancer diagnosis, and more (much more!) and I wondered why my life seemed to be filled with nothing but misery. I had tried to be good, tried to love and serve and do all the things that would bring me peace, but instead, I was in constant turmoil. The accident made me realize I had a choice. I could continue to be miserable as I always had been, or I could choose to have peace and use my experiences to help others find healing in their lives.

I chose peace.

And I’ve been choosing it every day since then.

Since my accident, I have trained to become a Certified Professional Coach and Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner. I work primarily with woman who have a history of trauma or abuse. I help them identify and sever the lies they tell themselves to prove they’re not enough so they can uncover the truth about their intrinsic value and reclaim their power, allowing them to create the beautiful lives they deserve to live. I’ve helped women all over the United States change the way they see themselves and learn about the power they have within. It’s an amazing experience to watch as my clients emerge from behind emotional walls that have been in place for years, and start really living with authenticity and power. I also love speaking to live audiences to share messages of hope and healing.

My book, Severed: A Memoir of Hope and Healing, begins on the afternoon before my accident and ends as I am leaving the hospital two weeks later. Woven into the story line are flashbacks and flash forwards giving glimpses of the trauma and abuse I experienced earlier in life, and the healing that was brought about by my change in attitude after the accident. It is a powerful story of hope and healing and how our own choices determine the trajectory of our lives.

Sandra's book is currently available for presale on Amazon. It will be released on June 1st in eBook and print formats on Amazon, and will be available on her website for author signed copies in paperback or hard cover formats.
